How to Cancel Spotify
in 2026
Cancel Spotify Premium and revert to the free plan — your playlists stay intact.
Before you cancel: Spotify does not refund partial billing periods. Premium continues until period end.
First: how are you billed for Spotify?
This decides where you cancel, and getting it wrong is the usual reason a cancellation appears impossible. If you subscribed inside an app on your phone, the payment is handled by Apple or Google — and Spotify’s own website has no cancel button for you.
Not sure? Check which account the charge appears on. A charge from Apple or Google rather than from Spotify tells you immediately.
Directly with the provider
- Visit spotify.com/account in your browser and log in.
- Scroll to "Your plan" and click "Change plan".
- Scroll to the bottom and click "Cancel Premium".
- Click "Yes, cancel" and optionally select a reason.
- Confirm cancellation. You'll receive a confirmation email.
Through the Apple App Store
Apple subscription settingsOn iPhone or iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions. On a Mac: App Store → your name → Account Settings. The provider’s own website cannot cancel an Apple-billed subscription.
- Open iPhone Settings > tap your Apple ID at the top.
- Tap "Subscriptions" and select Spotify.
- Tap "Cancel Subscription" and confirm.
- Note: Only works if you subscribed through Apple.
Through Google Play
Google Play subscriptionsIn the Play Store app: tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Or play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in a browser.
- Open Google Play Store > tap profile icon > Subscriptions.
- Find Spotify and tap "Cancel subscription".
- Follow the on-screen steps to confirm.
- Note: Only works if you subscribed through Google Play.
The billing routes above are inferred from the platforms Spotify is available on, not confirmed against the provider. If you find a route missing or wrong, tell us — that is the most useful correction you can send.
We do not hold Spotify’s official cancellation URL on file. Reach it from inside your account rather than from a search result — cancellation pages attract imitations designed to capture logins.
These steps are compiled from Spotify’s published documentation and have not been independently re-walked by us. Providers redesign account pages without notice, so treat the structure as a guide rather than a guarantee.
After you cancel
- Keep the confirmation email or take a screenshot. It is the only evidence you have.
- Most subscriptions run until the end of the period you have already paid for — cancelling is usually not the same as an immediate refund.
- Check your next statement. A cancellation that did not register looks identical to one that did until the charge arrives.
Do not use a bank block or a chargeback as a way to cancel. Blocking a payment does not end a contract: the subscription usually stays active, the amount owed can keep accruing, and the account can end up with a collections agency. If you are charged after a confirmed cancellation, contact the provider in writing first, then your national consumer authority.

Block via Your Bank or PayPal
A bank block or a chargeback is not a way to cancel. Blocking the payment does not end the contract — the subscription usually stays active and the amount owed can keep building, sometimes ending up with a collections agency. A chargeback is a dispute process for charges you never authorised.
If you have cancelled and are still being charged, the order is: contact the provider in writing and keep the confirmation; if that fails, raise it with the consumer authority for your country (linked from our country pages); and only where the charge is genuinely unauthorised, raise a dispute with your card issuer.
Cancel via PayPal
If you pay via PayPal: Log in → Settings → Payments → Manage automatic payments → find Spotify → Cancel.
